Herschel Space Telescope, interactive mapping.

How can we produce the coloured picture of a galaxy? This facility shows the stages of space observation with the Herschel telescope while projecting the creation of scientific pictures from raw data to aesthetic pictures.

Immersed into a dark place, the audience will face a wall of pictures from which a space observatory will go out to capture light from the Whirlpool Galaxy. It will be able to interact with the mapping by projecting explanations about the role of every telescope technical system. That’s the mecanological experience as the philosopher Gilbert Simondon means it.
